How I learned this stitch:
I learned peyote stitch via a book - can't quite remember which one but it was on a long haul flight between the USA and Australia so I had plenty of time to practice it.
What I found difficult about this stitch:
I think the first three rows are always tricky - trying to line up the beads seems fiddly and you feel like you have seven thumbs when you first begin working with it.
What kind of projects I do with this stitch:
I love doing all kinds of projects with this stitch - flat weave lovely large cuff bracelets, bezels for cabachons, beaded beads... it is so versatile.
My Favorite Beading Stitch:
Peyote Stitch
Why it's my favorite stitch:
I love the rhythm of bead weaving using this stitch. I find it very relaxing and de-stressing as each bead locks into place and the pattern slowly evolves. I love the soft drape of flat peyote beadwork because it almost feels like cloth. I love the clean, simple finish of peyote. I just love everything about it.
Tips and Tricks
- When you first start it can be useful to use the two-needle technique that you can Google - I have seen it magazines over time.
