What is a Full Spectrum Lamp?

Ott Lite with drop-down magnifier

A full spectrum lamp is sometimes called a "daylight" lamp. These types of lamps give a different type of lighting than an ordinary incandescent light bulb.

The light given off by a daylight or full spectrum light bulb or lamp is closer to natural sunlight than an ordinary light bulb. They produce light throughout the entire visible spectrum, simulating natural sunlight.

Daylight or full spectrum lamps and light bulbs show colors differently than regular incandescent or fluorescent light bulbs. This makes it easier to match bead colors, finishes and threads when you are beading.

Full spectrum lamps and light bulbs also reduce eye strain and make it easier to see what you are doing. You may still need a magnifier when working with full spectrum lamps and light bulbs for close-up work, but because they give off light that covers the entire visible spectrum, it is easier on your eyes.

Using good lighting is not only good for your eyes. It will prevent you from hunching over to see your beads, which can also prevent back, neck, arm and hand injuries.
