A Charming Collar of Seed Beads and Twisted BuglesI really love the way the light plays on twisted bugle beads, so of course I was thrilled to see Sandra Halpenny design a project using these fun beads. And not only did she design a stunning but understated day-to-night, casual-to-formal beaded collar, but she did is using the perfect color, that one shade of blue that can be both light and airy or deep and mysterious, depending on the light: Montana Blue.
What makes Sandra's beading designs so compelling, is the way they can shift from day to evening so effortlessly. This Twist Bugle and Seed Bead Necklace can be worn as easily with a white shirt and blue jeans as with a cocktail dress or with formal wear.
This bead pattern is, as we have come to expect of Sandra, simply superb. She seems to have a relationship with netting that no one has had before; it never lets her down on new stitch paths and design combinations. Her netted bead patterns always looks like fresh and light lace. In this bead pattern, there's a little element of the "bold" as sometimes occurs in Sandra's work, in this case, the design is toughened up by the "pickets" created with the twist bugles, giving the bead patterns just a touch of an edge and keeping it from being too sweet.
The tutorial is easy to follow, the beads included in the kit are gorgeous; you'll have no problem completing this design, as Sandra demonstrates each step in the pattern, and everything you'll need (plus a few extras) are included in the kit.
