To accomplish this, we will use the small finishing mail mentioned in the list of supplies. Here's how to create a workable hole in a felted wool bead using a finishing nail:
- Place the point of the nail into any spot on the felted wool ball and begin working the nail in small circles until it begins to penetrate the wool. If you have trouble getting the nail to push through the wool, try turning the nail in one direction and the wool in the other. Make tiny circles with the nail and be patient. The wool is felted tightly, and it may take a while to get the nail all the way through.
- Once the nail is has exited the felted wool ball on the other side, wiggle it around a bit so that the wool will compact and make a hole.
- Remove the nail and, if necessary, use a small pin to mark the exit spot. Turn the felted wool ball around, and this time, place the nail into the spot on the wool ball on the opposite side, where it exited when you first pierced it.
- Now, spend a minute or so wiggling the nail in a small, circular motion to enlarge the hole a bit. Do NOT worry that you are making the hole too large - this is pretty near impossible. If the wool is really firm, you may want to remove the nail and re-pierce from the other side again and give it a few twists.
- Once you are satisfied that the hole is compacted enough to allow you to place the felted wool ball onto the beading wire, slip it in to place on the Wool and Jet Beaded Necklace.
