Beadwork Retreat Instructor Spotlight: Margo Field
At The Beadwork Retreat, Margo Field will be teaching two workshops inspired by the Sonoma landscape and vineyards--her Dragonflies and Ferns Bracelet and Necklace and her very popular Vineyard Bracelet.
Margo first "discovered" beads in 1990. After retiring from a career in hospital pharmacy, she opened Poppy Field Bead Company in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
"Everyone has a creative spirit in them that needs to be nourished. All of my students are artists to the best of their abilities and desires. Teaching beadwork is a way of learning about me and others. I am a much happier and fulfilled person today than I was before I found beads," Margo writes.
Margos favorite form of beadwork is the peyote stitch, but she admits "it definitely was my least favorite when I was learning how to bead. It was just plain confusing at first!" She credits Judy Otero, who tutored her with great patience until she got it right. Margo now teaches at her store a basic beading class which covers peyote, brick and embellishment around cabochons.
Margo teaches more than 30 other classes at her store and workshops across the country. Her work was included in two recently published books, Beadwork Creates Beaded Bags and Beadwork Creates Bracelets (both from Interweave Press), and has been published in Beadwork magazine.
