Top 10 Project Books

by Paula S. Morgan
for About.com

These are some of my all-time favorite beadwork project books. If you could only choose ten books for your Desert Island, it should be these!

1. Second Looks by Suzanne Cooper

Actually, anything by Suzanne Cooper will qualify as a "best book"! I've added a review of her latest, so check it out as well.

2. Those Bad, Bad Beads by Virginia Blakelock

A classic in the truest sense - and an absolute must for every beader's library.

3. Beadin' with Beady Boop Vols I & II

Both Vol. 1 and Vol 2 are excellent. Charlene Hughes (aka Beady Boop) has never done a pattern I didn't love! You will have hours of fun with these books. And they are perfect for beginners, too.

4. Bloomin' Beads by Valerie Hixson

Valerie Hixson always has such fun patterns in her books! This one is a floral delight - and her animal book is amazing.

5. Beaded Adornment by Jeanette Shanigan

Some adorable projects by Jeanette Shanigan, an inspired Alaskan beader!

6. The Beaded Bracelet by Yvonne Rivero

An incredible amount of information in a small space. These are some fantastic bracelet patterns. Both the book and the finished products would make a great gift.

7. Beaded Needlecases by Jennie Might

Cute needle case patterns, and so much fun to do. Wear them as necklaces or give them as gifts. They work up fast and are nothing short of gorgeous.

8. One Bead at a Time by Robin Atkins

The best inspiration for bead embroidery. I love to just read through and absorb this book - then I find my inspired and ready to bead after some time. Great even if you never plan to bead embroider. I highly recommend.

9. Out on a Loom by Margie Deeb

I don't think Margie Deeb is capable of designing a loom pattern that is anything but exquisite. This is another inspirational must-have, without doubt. Even if you don't loom.

10. Making Wire Beads by Lisa Van Herik

Lisa Van Herik made wire an option for me. Prior to that, I felt like I would need a whole roomful of equipment in order to play with wire. This is a excellent first book if you are interested in wire beads.
