I love all the projects, but I admit I'm biased. I either selected my favorite pieces from the artists' body of work - or fell in love with the projects as they were being developed. And hearing the artists talk about their work added a deeper level of appreciation, too - which is why I decided to include artist’s statements with each piece in the book.

But my favorite aspect of the book is the incredibly diverse range of work - from French beaded roses to votive charms (Milagros) to mobiles. I'm amazed at how these designers express their deeply personal ideas in such thoughtful and specific ways. Each finished piece is as unique as the artist who made it - which is just how it should be.

I hope that this book will inspire readers - not only through the beautiful projects and gallery pieces, but also through the spirit of these designers. I hope it will encourage beadworkers of all skill levels to find new, creative ways to express in their own work what is most meaningful to them. And as they do, they'll become part of a very long and rich beadworking tradition.
