Establish the Pattern for the Beaded Beads
Native American Ceramic Shield Necklace
Working in odd-count flat peyote stitch, establish the pattern for the beaded beads:

  • Row 3: Pick up 1 A, skip 1 A, pass through the next A in the row;
  • Pick up 1 A, skip 1 A, pass through next B in row;
  • Pick up 1 B, skip 1 B, pass through next B in row;
  • Pick up 1 B, skip 1 A, pass through next A in row;
  • Pick up 1 A, skip 1 A, pass through next A in row;
  • Pick up 1 B, skip 1 B, pass through next B in row;
  • Pick up 1 B, skip 1 A, pass through next A in row;
  • Pick up 1 A, skip 1 A, pass through next A in row;
  • Pick up 1 A and pass back down through the first A from Row 1.

To continue the established pattern while working in odd-count flay peyote stitch, simply stitch a bead of the same color as the bead directly under where you are stitching. If there is a Linen Luster bead in the space below where you are stitching, you will stitch a Linen Luster bead directly above it.
