Double-Strand Beadweaving

Definition:

Occasionally, an off-loom beadweaving tutorial asks you to use a "double strand" of beading thread. To set up your needle and thread for double-strand beadweaving, you thread the needle and slide it half-way down the thread. You then bring both ends of the thread together and (usually) secure a stop bead or bead stopper about six to eight inches from the thread ends.

Why (and Why Not) Use Double-Strand Thread?

Double-strand thread can be useful when you want to add bulk to beadwork stitched with large-hole beads. With double-strand thread, your needle also cannot accidentally slip off the thread. However, this makes it much more difficult to correct mistakes in your beadwork by ripping. To go back and make a correction, you may need to break beads in your beadwork, or cut the thread to remove the needle. After cutting the thread, you need to end that thread and begin a new one.
