STORAGE TIPS AND IDEAS "Empty CD jewelcases -- with or without their opaque CD holder inserts -- make good stackable containers for small coils, cards, and stray lengths of bead string, cord or wire. If you remove the opaque insert, you can see through the stack and retrieve what you want more easily. You can get these cases for free, or at low cost, from many second-hand CD dealers and dollar stores". Contributed by Bennett M.

--- "Cheap 4- or 6-drawer plastic chests of drawers on casters -- available from some office supply stores -- make good movable storage units for your lighter bead supplies. Some even have a recessed tray on the top surface to corral loose beads. Make sure the chest you buy has drawer-stops so you don't accidentally pull the drawers straight out of the unit". --- "One of the best organizers I have found is Tic-Tac containers. I discovered how wonderful they are for holding beads when a friend's mom gifted me with a couple of hundred. Several of the plastic organizers from the home improvement store hold 50 or 60 in a way that I can look through the clear top and see what all of the little boxes hold". Contributed by Lisa B.

--- "I never throw away the prescription pill bottles you get from the drugstore. They come in all different sizes and are usually just the right size to work tubular peyote bags. When I am done working for the day, I stow my beads, needles, scissors, Thread Heaven.....all the little things inside. The child-proof caps mean nothing will spill out during traveling too". --- "If you have contact lenses, the little glass bottles that they originally came in are good for keeping beads in. Once the labels are off they're transparent so you can tell at a glance which beads are in there. These are really good for beads that you don't have a lot of; this way, you don't waste a larger container for such a tiny amount. (Just make sure that you rinse them out really well before - the saline in them COULD react with the finishes on some beads! Contributed by Claire M.

--- "Some fishing tackle boxes make good permanent or travelling bead supply boxes. Light, sealable plastic ones with movable compartment dividers are available at low cost from many hardware stores. Before you buy, however, test them with a few seed beads to make sure that the dividers are flush with the lid, and that small items can't migrate from one compartment into another. --- "If you keep your beads in small see-through containers with opaque lids, store them upside down for a better view of the contents. If you have wooden shelves, you can use a handyman's trick to multiply shelf space: nail the lids of your small bead jars to the undersides of the shelves, then twist the containers back onto the lids so they hang securely beneath the shelf.
