The Magical Amulet Bag Sigrid Wynne-Evans, 1995

The Beaded Bear Publishing

9 X 6, Paperbound, 62 pages, color photos, B&W graphs. $12.95

ISBN# 0-9648360-1-7

Another landmark volume. This one was an early inspiration for many Amulet bag makers.

Starting with some beadwork basic information, this volume goes on to discuss two different stitches used for making amulet bags. One is, of course Peyote Stitch, the other is the less used netting stitch, which is just lovely. Directions are given for both, and they are very easy to follow. The graphics for the stitches are perfect; clear and concise. If you have not tried the netting pattern, give it a whirl, it is very good for beginners, too. Also included in the techniques section are strap ideas, fringe options and bag closure suggestions.

On to the graphs! A few of the designs are the Amulet bag versions of the earring designs, but most of them are original to the book. Favorites of mine are Goin' Fishin', the Japanese Crane, the Dragonfly, the Sun/Moon, Polar Bear, Tapestry and the Jaguar.

Beautiful color photographs, black and white graphs are easy to read. This is a must have for the collection of any serious beader!
