| Beadwork Book Review: Three Dimensional Beading |
And I was not disappointed. This beading book is truly excellent. It is not
so much a pattern book, but a beading idea and beadwork instructional volume.
Sig teaches many variations on Peyote, which is the primary stitch used in her
3-D designs, including an excelent tutorial for using picots to join armatures
within the work.
There are some adorable 3-D beaded patterns in the book, in fact, most of the
projects have a touch of whimsy to them, as I have grown to expect from the
beading designes by Sig; I'm particularly fond of the ittle bumble bees.
The book also includes clear and concise instructions for the bead stitch
variations as well as for the beading increases and decreases needed to build
the 3-D images properly. If you are interested in learning more about structural
beadwork and the use of Peyote stitch for building representational images, this
is the right book for you. If yu are interested in making freestanding beaded
dolls or other sculptural representation with beadwork, there is no better basic
text than this volume. Even if you are not a 3-D beader, this is an excellet
companion book for a Peyote stitch library. I highly recommend it.

I was hearing wonderful things
about this book long before I ever saw it. It was being called an instant
classic and hailed as "best ever" with "excellent instructions" and more. Ok, so
I was a bit skeptical, but since it was written by Sigird Wynne-Evans, and since
I knew her reputation as a 3-D beader, I had a feeling it really was going to be
terrific.
