Beading Complex Motifs on Fabric
Lacey’s Stiff Stuff will allow you to beaded complex motifs easily and prevent your background fabric from showing through your beading. Lacy’s Stiff Stuff is a white, thin, stiff, fiber sheet. It will not fray shrink or lose stiffness when washed.
Trace all pattern lines on to Stiff Stuff with pencil, using a window or light box. Remember to make each section at least the width of one row of seed beads.
Color all sections within the lines of the pattern on Stiff Stuff with fabric or permanent markers. Color the pattern to correspond to the bead color you will stitch into each section.
Let the markers dry for at least an hour. When dry, cut out the entire pattern on the outer pencil line. Baste by hand or machine onto fabric.
Insert the fabric into a hoop to prevent the fabric from puckering when beading.
Bead through the fabric and colored Stiff Stuff with the beaded back stitch. Bead the boarder lines of a color first, and then fill in the interior. Bead by color, what fun!
