Spotlight Artist
Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Lisa Ring, of Lisa Ring Designs. The picture at right is a finished version of the pattern she is offereing us, The "Bingo" design. Now, from Lisa:
“I
am a self-taught beader with no formal artistic training but I have
always had a favorite craft project in process, whether it be sewing,
knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, embroidery, counted cross-stitch
or my current obsession of bead weaving.
“I started bead stringing about eleven years ago after I went to a gem & jewelry show and admired the many tables of fresh water pearls, gemstone beads and Austrian crystals. My sister-in-law looked at me and said, "we can do that!" The rest is history! I learned how to peyote after I fell in love with Jennifer Clement's "Turtles Dancing" amulet bag pattern in the May/June 1995 issue of Bead and Button.
“Laguna Moon was one of my first attempts at amulet bag design and was my entry in the first Caravan Beads Delica Challenge "The Sea." I was thrilled when it was chosen to be published in their book of selected entries.
“Red Tiger was my first big cat design and was created for my Mom’s birthday (I am not allowed to say which birthday!) and was featured in the "Your Work" section of the June 1999 issue of Bead & Button. Being a cat person, it only seemed natural to follow the Red Tiger by White Tiger, Leopard, Black Panther and Lion. Jungle Book (Bagheera the black panther, Shere Khan the red tiger and Kaa the snake) was my entry in the second Caravan Beads Delica Challenge "Myths and Folktales." This time my entry not only was selected for inclusion in the book, but it was a finalist in the'Challenge! I am currently working on a Cheetah design. The "test"version can be viewed at my website. All my amulet bags are available as patterns and kits on my website, too.”
Thank you Lisa! Here is a link to the pattern Lisa has designed exclusively for readers of the Beadwork Site.
