Welcome to Spotlight Artist. This week, I'm proud to introduce Cecilia Prado, AKA "Inkchick". Cecilia is a regular poster on the Beadwork Forum, and is a contributor to the marvelous Bead-Patterns.com! She is a very talented designer, and a delightful person as well. So, without further from me, here's Cecilia!!
I've never been able to draw with a pencil and paper, but give me a needle and thread and I can do anything! I learned to crochet when I was 8 years old; taught by my greatest influence in life, my great grandmother, Nana. She is still with me every time I pick up a needle and thread of any kind. I have loved and taught sewing, embroidery, ribbon work, crochet and all kinds of crafts. I was always trying something new, looking for a real passion. Then I came across an issue of Bead and Button at a magazine stand in 1997. There was a great crocheted scarf with a knotted bead fringe. I only bought the magazine for that project, but as I looked and looked at these little tiny beaded books and things by David Chatt, I became more and more
enchanted with the little beads. Bead Epiphany! Now I can't keep my hands off the darned little things!!
I went online and found Aunt Molly's Bead Street and thought, wow, how can I learn to do this? More searching led me to what was the Mining Co and is now this wonderful about.com Beadwork site. I printed every article every week - and vowed to learn the stitches. After a lot of practice at the 'rippit' stitch I think I might have the hang of some of them! I've been a real fan of kits and believe it's very important to support your fellow beaders so I still like to purchase patterns, and books and love to learn new things from the bead community.
I am branching off into doing my own designs now, and some of you may have seen the Flamed Chapstick Tube cover I gave as an Xmas present to the Beadwork Forum. My gift to you this week is a companion piece, a flamed peyote stitch bracelet with a heart center. I hope you enjoy this pattern and take a look at some of my other patterns at Bead-Patterns.com.
Thank you, Cecilia! And here's a link to the gorgeous Flame Bracelet that Cecilia has designed for us. The Delica colors and quantities used are as follows:
DB 744 (orange) you need 337 beads
DB 743 (yellow) you need 156 beads
DB 745 (dk red) you need 502 beads
DB 010 (black) you need 1210 beads
You can add the flames from the side by increasing the Peyote, or by turning the pattern once it's done and adding them using Brick Stitch. You can also increas the length of the bracelet from eother end.
Please join me in thanking Cecilia for being with us. She is a wonderful designer and a terrific person. All the best to you, Cecilia!
Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a bracelet to make! LOL!! I hope all of you enjoy it, too!
