Spotlight Artist
I would like to introduce Chris Prussing, of the Juneau Bead Society. Chris is not only a very talented bead designer, but she is the List Mistress of a very interesting, if somewhat controversial (perhaps infamous is a better word!) Email Group called Bead Hell! Check out the poll "R-U-A Copycat?" Very insightful - it sure will make you think!
Now, Without further from me, here's Chris!
"I'm the owner of The Bead Gallery, a strange little shop in Juneau, Alaska.
My favorite beading book is still The New Beadwork, by Moss and Scherer. Compared to the talent and artistry displayed in this book, I feel my own abilities are rather modest.
Much of the artistic fun I have with beads is as a designer - I love to come up with ideas that other beadists can use as a framework for their own selection of bead colors, sizes, shapes, texture, etc. Tutorials I've written have been published in Bead & Button and Beadwork magazines.
I’ll be teaching two cross weaving classes at the Bead & Button Show in Milwaukee this coming May. These classes will be comparatively short (just 3 hours) and inexpensive, but intense. Students will receive a thorough grounding in cross weaving techniques, as well as project ideas for fun and elegant jewelry. Inquiring minds will also discover what my one-of-a-kind pieces are like, assuming there will again be an exhibit of works by the teachers.
The long-suffering members of the Juneau Bead Society, who gamely put up with my demos, get a huge "Thanks!" from me. A tip o’ the hat as well as Jodie Ervin and the gals in her Tennessee bead group, who came up with the improvement to step #6 in my "Bead Berries" instructions.
The "R-U-A-Copycat Poll" is the result of my selflessly slaving away as Immoderator of the eGroups list BeadHell. Interested beadists are invited to consider the 20 questions on the poll, and to vote their opinions. And if you ever get sent to BeadHell, be sure to check out the contributions by Aunt Molly and other Hellions in the Files section, and contribute some fab stuff of your own."
Chris has supplied us with a bead pattern called Hugs and Kisses With A Twist pattern and written directions. Here's thebeading tutorial.
