Beaded Obsessions Cheryl Assemi, Bobbi Assemi, Cathy Thomsen, Connie Bell and Carol Sweet 1998
Beadgang Publications> 8 1/2 X 11, Paperback, 17 pages, color photos, color graphs. $18.95, ISBN#096774760-0

This first publication by the amazing BeadGang is one terrific Amulet book! However, beautiful patterns are not the only thing offered. Great photos, excellent graphs and some wonderful instructions are included, too. For starters, take a look at these patterns. The subtitle says "sophisticated and not so sophisticated" and it's right! Both elegant and whimsical are covered here, sometimes the two interchanging, such as in Sunflower and Hawaiian Sunset (which reminds me of 1970's style airbrushed T-shirts)! The Cock-a-Doodle-Doo is delightful as is the Butterfly and Feline Fancy. As for the more elegant designs, the Crystal Corsage and Sunflower take my breath away.

Each project is rated in terms of difficulty, and there is even a "Young Beader's Page" with a project suitable for a very new beginner. At the fold are instructions for basic Peyote, as well as great graphics for increasing, decreasing, adding thread, circular brick and netting. These pages are made to be removed, if you like, then folded and stapled for a little "lesson book" for your bead table!

The book is written is a charming and light style, that will keep even the most frustrated from deciding to throw in the towel (or beads). Charming tips and tricks are included, as is a lovely photo of each of the finished pieces.

Get this one for yourself, or as a gift for someone just starting out.
