Beadwork Challenge:
Bead Art for Art's Sake

This Challenge is a bit different from the other Beadwork Challenges. This time, your Challenge is to create a piece of bead artwork - something unwearable, something that exists for no other reason than it makes you happy.

Each entry must be at least 50% beads, and it must include one item from Nature. That item may be a feather, a stone, some natural fiber, a stick, a pearl, a gemstone, sand - you name it, as long as it's natural!

All entries must have been made by the entrant. Entries must be comprised of at least 50% beads; any shape or size, and any assembly technique may be used. This includes stringing, loom weaving, off loom techniques, sculpture, wire work, you name it! The finished piece must reflect the theme of the Challenge, "Bead Art fo Art's Sake" and be accompanied by a short description of the piece and the components used. You may also include information regarding your design, particular methods or software used, etc.

Entries may be either your own original designs or those from published materials, as long as you have the permission of the original designer. One entry per person, contest void where prohibited.

Send your entries to me at Beadwork.Guide@About.com, and be sure to list "Challenge Entry" in the subject box. I will let you know that I have received your entry, and if there are any problems viewing it. Please include your full name (real name) and a screen name if you prefer to be identified as such, and your email address.

Additional rules: The submission must be a jpeg format picture of the piece. You may send 2 pictures, such as a front & back, or two separate views, but pictures may be no larger than 500 X 500 pixels. DO NOT SEND Zip files or anything that must be opened to view the piece. In light of the recent email virus problems, any entries sent in any format other than JPEG will be returned to the entrant, unopened.

The contest will run from January 15, 2002 through March 31, 2002. Deadline for entries is midnight PST, March 31 2002. The winners will be announced in mid April. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at beadwork.guide@about.com. Have fun!
