Autumn on a String Challenge Entries
And the Winning Entry is:
Cindy Wilson, "Last Ride"
Congratulations Cindy, and thank you to everyone who took the time to send an entry!
The theme 'Autumn on a String' made me think of kites, and I have always liked Faeries so I combined them in this design. The Faeries are having a 'Last Ride' on the falling leaves. Sort of a hang glide.... I used size 11 seed beads in backstitch on leather with larger glass beads, brass beads, and two oblong brass beads in the neck pieces. The leaves are connected by rings and eye pins. Faeries are attached with eye pins also. Thank you for this opportunity and good luck to all the
Entrants.

I used a size 10 beading needle in the peyote stitch with size 8 Czech glass seed beads. I designed the fish myself and designed the bag with the slight curve in the middle. This bag reminds me of Autumn because of all the colors. The fish is because my father and I use to fish with the beautiful autumn colors of the trees swaying in the breeze behind us.

Fall Splendor is an amulet bag made with eight different shades of gold/yellow/red Delicas, using tubular and flat peyote stitch. The front shows an autumn leaf caught just as it turns rich red with fiery orange and gold highlights. The back has subtle hints of golden leaves floating down and a flap done with leaf shaped edges. The fringe and strap were made with seed beads, glass leaf beads, amber Czech e-beads and various flower beads. The stick fringe method was also used. The bag and fringe measures 6 1/2" and is attached to a 21" strap

This is a set that I made using Fall colors....browns, rusts, greens, etc. The bracelet, which is the centerpiece of the set, is an embellished loomed piece. The base is a loomed band of size 8 hex's and the embellishment includes size 11 seed beads, vintage beads, crystals, seeds, nuts, lampworked beads, etc. The clasp is a vintage button.

This is loom necklace by my design. I've named it "Autumn in my town". I was admiring of autumn coloures from dark green to golden and red and I wold like to see it even in spring time, winter or summer. This necklace was made with seed beads and some of large glass beads different shapes. I wish great creations to all beadworkers!!!

"Autumn on a String" is depicted here with a woman surrounded by
autumn leaves and the bag itself is on a "String" made with autumn colors. The autumn feel is definitely there. The strap can be removed and the toggle clasp can turn it into a necklace to be doubled to dress up your pretty autumn colored shell. Otherwise I would wear the bag across from shoulder to opposite hip... it will hold a small cardholder of credit cards and a license and little bit of money. The stitch is regular peyote, except at top and bottom and that's just a little lace to dress it up. Hope you enjoy, I had a blast making it.

A few years ago while driving through Gold Bar, Washington, I stopped at a Rock Show being held outdoors in a parking lot. These pretty autumn leaf colored agates caught my eye at once and I bought several of them very cheaply. It took me another few years to decide how to work with them, but when I did, I ended up making four. One for Skddle's Falling Leaves and Waters swap, one for my Mom, one for my best friend Charley and one for me. Mine is the one pictured. Fall is my favorite season and I love wearing this. I redid the strap recently since I cannibalized it for some beads I needed for another project. The new strap, with the peyote cylinder at the back of the neck, is much more comfy than the old one, which was simply strung on softflex.

An amulet bag "Gold leaves of autumn" is made in RAW technique. Photo is approximately half a real size of a bag. I designed and made it 2 years ago. I'm beading for about 4 years, but it's my first try to show my beadwork on the net.

I didn't plan on entering this challenge, but when I finished this piece the colors just "said" autumn, so here it is! The cabochon is chrysanthemum, I peyote stitched around it. I used netting for the chain and around the cab. the dangles are brown-bronze colored crystals.

This is done in peyote, from a sketch, not a pattern. The beads used are bead soup--anything to give me the color mix. The strap includes some vintage flea market beads.

For this Quarterly Challenge "Autumn on a String" the word autumn was the deciding factor of the colors for my 'Fall Flowers 2001' bracelet. The bracelet is composed of two(2) parts, leaves and a spiral chain; the leaves are done in square stitch using size 11 Japanese seed beads. The leaves range in size from 1/2" to 1" wide by 7/8" to 1 1/2" high, now the leaves are attached to the core beads at random intervals. Size 14 Japanese delicas were used in the circle part of the clasp, total length of the bracelet is 8 inches.

I have done this necklace with leaves, because in the autumn they fall and I have wanted that they stay around my neck. I have been inspired by the Russian Beadweaving book (white cover) to make my leaves.

My entry is a large hand bag, approximately 9.5 inches in length (including the fringe) and 3.5 inches wide. It was made with size 10 and 11 glass seed beads in, at least, 25 colours. The body of the bag was done with one-drop peyote stitch. I designed the image myself and incorporated peyote leaves into the fringe. The pattern for peyote leaves can be found at Maria Oldring's web-site. I love autumn with it's rich colours of changing leaves. Yet there is the other side of autumn: when all the leaves have fallen off the trees. I find bare naked trees quite stark, not attractive, an unappealing harbinger of winter. So I tried to beautify, in beads, a scene involving a bare tree having lost all if its leaves, save for 2 little leaves hanging on for dear life ,and the autumnal yard work staple of raking/bagging leaves.

I'm glad to send you my entry for the contest. It's an autumn beaded tree, which is about 25 cm. It's made of warm colors: yellow, orange, red and brown, with a bit of green too. I used brown wire for the branches and the trunk. I hope you'll like it.

This is a 16" white stoneware vase that I slip cast, then altered. I added ceramic leaves (I created a mold and cast these as well, attaching them before the first firing). It is glazed with under glazes, glazes and stains. The beads used are fossil beads and garnet chips for the roots of the tree. The tree itself is three sizes of Rocaille seed beads strung on 24 gauge gold filled wire and Acculon 3 strand. The branches are embellished with pressed glass flowers and a cat.
