Beaded Hemp Leaf Earrings
Free Bead Pattern for a Beaded Hemp Leaf

Hemp stuff is hugely popular these days and these beaded earrings are hot sellers in the right market. Use this bead pattern to make beaded earrings or a pendant for a choker or necklace.

First we need to make 7 leaves, 1 large one, 4 medium ones and 2 small ones, then join them together to make the beaded earring or pendant. Each leaf is made the same way, the only variation being the number of beads used. Each leaf is made from brick stitch with the multiple bead base row making up the body of the leaf. For the large leaf begin with a base row ten beads tall. Pick up 20 beads, fold the string in half and tie them at the top. Thread down through the ten beads on the right hand side. Pick up ten more beads and thread down through the last ten beads again from top to bottom then go up through the ten beads you just added. Add two more sets of ten beads the same way for a total of 5.

Add four normally decreasing rows of brick stitch to each end of the base.

For the last row (consisting of one bead) on one end of the leaf simply pick up the bead and go down through the second bead in the previous row rather than brick stitching it down to give the leaf a pointy tip.

For the 4 medium sized leaves make a base 6 beads tall and 4 columns wide then add three rows of normally decreasing brick stitch to each end. For the two small leaves make a base 5 beads tall and two columns wide and and brick stitch one bead to each end.

Now we need to start attaching the leaves to one another. Start with your thread coming out of the bottom of the second to last bead along one edge of the large leaf. Go up through the bottom bead (on the non-pointy end) of one of the medium leaves. Now start stitching the two edges together by stitching up through every other bead alternating edges with each stitch. When you come to the top bead shown stitched on the large "web" illustration farther down this page work your way back down stitching the beads you skipped on your way up.

Stitch all seven leaves together as shown in the following illustration. Pull each stitch tight, they are shown separated only so you can see what's going on. As you stitch the tension will begin to distort the leaves giving them a more rounded naturalistic look.

When you finish stitching the leaves together there will still be a gap in the center where the points of the leaves meet. Stitch the gap closed by looping around the threads that stretch from one leaf to the next. Stitch under one thread then stitch under the thread diagonally across from it on the other side of the gap. Keep crisscrossing the gap grabbing threads and pulling tight until the gap is tightly closed.

To add a loop for an earring wire thread up to the top of the large loop and through the point bead. Pick up 6 beads and go through the other side of the point bead. Thread through the loop a couple of times to strengthen it then weave back into the body of the leaf.

Note:
While I do condone the recreational use of marijuana (or any drug for that matter), it is a fact that Marijuana has been shown to combat blindness in glaucoma sufferers, alleviate wasting syndrome in aids and terminal cancer patients and may help treat schizophrenia and tourettes syndrome as well. While I do not call for wholesale legalization of Marijuana, I do support medicinal use of this herb and hope that it will one day be easier to access for the folks who would benefit from the healing properties this herb contains.
