Netted Candlestick
Dateline: 01/01/01
This lovely candlestick netting is based on the vertical netting taught by Celia Martin, in the December issue of Bead & Button magazine.
It is both simple and lovely, and makes a great gift, too! The lined bugle beads sparkle in the light of the candle, and really dresses up a table. Here's what you'll need to make one of your own:
5 grams (approximately) Matte Silver size 8/0 seed beads
5 grams (approximately) Silver Lined Bugles - Size 12
10 8 mm Etched Faceted glass beads
Nymo "D" - gray
Size 12 Beading Needle
1. String 30 Matte Silver beads and tie into a circle. Leave a 4-5 inch tail, to be woven in later.
2. Pass through the first bead in the circle, and add beads in this pattern: 1 matte silver, 1 bugle, until you have 7 matte silver. Then add one faceted bead and a matter silver.

3. After adding the last matte silver bead, pass your thread back through the faceted bead, and the previous matte silver. Add a bugle.

4. Add the beads in the same pattern, then pass the needle through three of the beads in the circle. Skip passing through the first bead, your thread will make a V over that first bead.

Your first section of netting will look like this:

5. Continue to add beads in the pattern above, only pass the thread through the non connected matte silver in the previous row. This is what will connect your netting. 6. At the top, pass the needle through 3 beads again, until you have finished the circle.
7. When you have completed the circle, "lace" the netting up by adding bugles and passing through the matte silver on the unconnected side. Tie off at the top, and weave in any loose threads. You are finished!
Now, drape this net over the top of a candleholder, preferably one with a lip about 3/4 of an inch wide. If you only have regular candleholders, you can purchase a little gizmo called a "bobeche", which is designed to catch dripping wax, but works very well to help the drape of the net! Here's how the top should look:
Have fun with these, and make a bunch! Give them with a set of bobeches and candles as a quickie hostess gift! Or keep them for your own table!
