How To Organize Your Beadwork Projects

From , former About.com Guide

Having trouble keeping track of which project is which? Wondering if these beads go to that project, or the one over there? Well, here are some tips to help you get it all straightened out.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: Varies depending on your collection

Here's How:

  1. Sort out all of the beadwork projects you have started, placing the items used for each into separate piles.
  2. Starting with the first project, determine what additional items will be needed to complete that project, ie: beads, thread, findings, etc. and make up a list of those items.
  3. After completing the supplies list, add any notes regarding the project such as what inspired it, ideas for it, deadlines for completion and what it is meant for (wedding gift, big date, beadwork competition, etc.).
  4. Place all items for the project into a small zipper-top type bag, usually the snack size will do, but whatever size is appropriate to the project. Include your notes with the project.
  5. Add to the zipper-top bag everything else that you will need, including thread, beads, findings and pictures (but not tools) to complete the project.
  6. Make a list of all other items you will need to obtain in order to complete the beadwork project, such as certain beads, needles, thread, wax, yard goods, etc.
  7. Make one more list for each bag outlining what tools you will need to complete the project, such as a loom, chainnose pliers, beadboard, or glue.
  8. Put the bagged up projects on your workbench, or in any other area, so that you will be able to reach for one anytime you are ready to do some beadwork!

Tips:

  1. Try to purchase or obtain all of the beads you need for a project before you start on it. There is nothing worse than not being able to match a color or bead type.
  2. Write down any ideas and inspirations you have about a project as soon as you can. Cool patterns and ideas often get lost if not committed to paper quickly!
  3. Return everything to its bag when you are done working on a project for the moment, then everything will be where you want it when you return!
