How Do You Like the New Neon Beads?

From Chris Franchetti Michaels, About.com GuideJune 26, 2012

Follow me on:

After reading Margie Deeb's 2012 Spring Summer Color Report for Beaders, I knew this season would bring some unusual new bead colors. Some have turned out to be even wilder than I imagined.

How do you feel about the new "neon" colors making their way into bead shops? They're very reminiscent of 1980s fashion, which makes sense as we're seeing a revival of certain '80s fashion apparel. For me, a teenager in the '80s, they're a bit too bold of a statement for me now. But I'm curious to hear what everyone else thinks. Will you use neon beads in a design this year?

Here are some interesting examples of designs that use the new neon Swarovski pearl beads, which are neon to the max:

P.S. ~ If you are interested in designing with neon, consider entering Bello Modo's Neon Pearls design challenge. The deadline to enter is July 27, 2012.

Oh, where to start? And still try to be tactful..? Um, no I don’t think I’ll be using these colors anytime soon. But, I’m too old (translation: not a teenager) for Neon colors to float my boat. LOL!

Swarovski’s are a great product and I use them in a lot of my work….so anyone who buys these are getting awesome beads.

I like bright colors don’t get me wrong, but when I think of Pearls, I don’t think bright! It takes away from the suave and elegance of what pearls represent. Seriously, are they fresh water pearls, and are there any actual naturally grown and processed pearls in the ocean? Ummm…. nope!
That’s just my humble opinion. I won’t be using these, at least not in a while.

Neon colors remind me of the day-glo sox of the late 40s-early 50s. No longer a fan, save that for the safety vests… I prefer bright not garish, but then I’m not into tats either…Grandma Lil

Too much color back then and too much now. Young ones knock your eyes out on these colors!

I tend to agree with all of you – I find them blinding even just to look at on my computer screen!
