The very best thing about beadwork is, of course, the beads! But with so many different colors, shapes and sizes of seed beads, you might not know where to start.

Different sizes of seed beads

Seed beads come in a wide range of sizes. Because there are so many different sizes, it's important to know which size is best to use with your needles and thread for your project. If you are new to beading and learning a new beading stitch, it can sometimes make it easier to use a larger size seed bead. The larger size makes it easier to see how the beads should fit together and the path your thread should take.

The three basic types of seed beads that can be found in most bead shops and in online catalogs are Czech seed beads, Japanese seed beads, and Japanese cylinder beads. Each one is beautiful and unique, and they can be used in many different ways for many different projects.

Other types of seed beads

And even though they don't have the same shape as seed beads, there are other types of beads that can be categorized as "seed beads". There are seed beads shaped like triangles, like fat donuts, and of course, beautiful bugle beads. Even though these don't have the same shape as a round or cylinder-shaped seed bead, they are usually found near the seed beads in bead shops and in catalogs.

Knowing a little bit about seed beads will make your bead shopping easier and your beadwork projects more enjoyable!
