Beading Project: Create an Original Toggle on your emBead Brand Silk Covered Beading Cord
Monday July 14, 2008
I absolutely love emBead™, a silk-covered beading cord that is a miracle unto itself. It is a perfect medium for creating your own surface embroidered beaded jewelry items, specifically bracelets and necklaces, but I have considered using it to frame a dimensional bead embroidery image, or to stitch to the hem of a skirt to give it some structure and to add embellishment. It would make a great belt in single width for the very slender, or if stitched together in a double width for those of us no longer able to carry off the slim little belts we once wore. And what a great hatband fabric! There is a "bangle" type bracelet available in emBead™ cord, and they get my vote as Best Bangle Bracelets Ever because they don't make that awful, alarming clattering noise every time you move your arm. There are also emBead™ cords available with finished ends, unfinished ends, in a variety of lengths, a rainbow of silk colors, and other options, including emBead™ cord with pre-beaded clasps.
When I first encountered emBead™, I was immediately inspired to create this special antique glass loop and stick pearl toggle closure for a sample I received in bracelet size, and I think it came out great. The glass loops are still available from Splendor in the Glass but they may not be around forever. Grab some while you can to create your own unusual variety of toggle clasp for your own emBead™ Silk Covered Beading Cord bead embroidery creation.
