Vote: Regular Off-Bead-Topic Visiting Folder in the Beadwork Forum or Not? Plus, Please Add Your Own Ideas for Some New Beadwork Forum Folders.
Wednesday June 13, 2007
Please cast your vote in the latest Beadwork Forum Poll:
Would you like to have a Forum folder just for general visiting and totally off-topic chat? Or do you prefer to keep your Forum posts on the topic of beading and beadwork only?
Perhaps you have an idea for a new or different folder for the Beadwork Forum, one that would cover more beading information, such as antique or trade beads, bead history, reseach, and scholarship? Maybe you'd like to have a section devoted to new ways to use standard stitches and techniques? Perhaps a "Helpful Hints" section, where users can post their favorite tips and tricks for making a difficult process easy?
Or a "Show and Tell" section, featuring new projects with artist statements or comments on the creation or conception of the design. Not a pattern or a free how-to, but a basic outline of the project and its influences, one that is even closed to comments by others?
Another idea is to devote more conversation to using our beading talents to make money, such as tips for selling finished projects, getting into galleries or juried shows, tips for getting your work published in the magazines, and designing for the "immediate download" market. This folder could also be used to discuss kit making, how to sell kits, finding a kit representative service or selling your own kits, projects or patterns?
Finally, a "Constructive Criticism" section is appealing, as long as it is monitored and absolutely no flaming is permitted.
If any of these additional ideas sound interesting, please comment in the section below, or in this thread in the Beadwork Forumso that we may customize the Forum into a place with all the beading discussion you want and need.
Thanks!

i would like a folder for bead history, history resources, ancient techniques, or also traditional beadmaking and beadwork.
making money? I can’t say, for Italian market has nothing to do with US.
Ciao
laura, florence, Italy
I would be very interested in more info on making money, tips for selling and getting into galleries, etc.
Thanks!
Sandy, Austin, TX
I’m interested in new uses for different stitches and techniques as well as more info on marketing and getting into galleries, pricing jewelry, setting up a portfolio, etc.
I’d love to see a folder on getting involved in the art/craft show side of beading.
Techniques are good too, as are tips on making things simpler. Additionally, how about a folder on traditional beading among Native Americans, South American communities, etc. I’d love to explore the Cherokee and Iroquois beading culture of my ancestors.
